THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

Hey everybody! Thank you so much for joining me again for another movie review.  I am going to be reviewing the mystery thriller, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  David Fincher, the director of such works as Fight Club and Seven, was nominated for two Oscars for the films The Curios Case Of Benjamin Button and The Social Network. I'm a big fan of David Fincher's work. I love how he combines great stories with good cinematography. Sometimes the cinematography takes a back seat in his films and you get so involved in the story that its such an enjoyable experience.  I have definitely taken notes for some of my future movies to come. Some cool things to look for in Fincher's films is how he uses low key lighting with green or blue tinted color temperature. The other thing I liked-- and I used in my short film--I adopted his idea of often featuring several single frames that flash on the screen in the middle of a scene. You know, when I watched the film I enjoyed it. I feel like the movie did the novel justice, but the only problem I really had with it was that it took too long to get to the point where you start  to see the relationships between the characters develop and how they react with each other as the story unfolds. Like me, you might loose the intrest of your audience but, then again, I understand the concept of building suspense, so its a love hate relationship with that aspect. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a 2011 American mystery thriller based on the Swedish novel by Steig Larson. The film stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Marie and tells the story of journalist Mikael Blomkvist's investigation to find out what happened to a woman from a wealthy family that's been missing for over forty years. Persoanlly, I love the story and even throughout the movie the director was able to build suspense and get you thinking or trying to figure out for yourself who was the culprit. Thats something I truely love about filmmaking when your able to involve your audience without really involving them. That is a technique I'm trying to figure out myself. What really impressed me about the film was how long the process took for it to finally go into production. Sony Pictures began  development of the film in 2009. It took some time for the company to obtain the rights to the novel. The film's script took over six months to write which included analyzing the novel, but with a budget of 90 million they were off to Norway and Switzerland to shoot for seven months. Overall I enjoyed the dark, grim tone of the film, but the ending left me either wanting more or confused. It was brutal and entertaining. I think we get to see a new side of David Fincher and I'm interested to see what's next. I give it 9 out of 10 movie reels. THE RAID : REDEMPTION

Hey everybody thanks for joining me again at FILM REVIEWS FROM A FILMMAKAER as I review THE RAID : REDEMPTION, from the very start your thrown into this amazing world of high paced action and thrills, it does not let up and I simply did not want it to and that's what I love about this film I believe this movie is a true definition of action packed I am actually jealous I didn't come up with the idea for this film and direct it myself but that's the true beauty of this film is for future filmmakers and current filmmakers to watch this movie and take notes, From one of the best movies of the year, The Raid : Redemption is a 2011 Indonesian martial arts action film written and directed by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais they previously worked with each other on the action film Merantau that released in 2009. While still in production Sony pictures acquired the distribution rights of the film for the U.S. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Joseph Trapanese created a nice feel for the film musically that really gets you involved in the scenes. The film premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and premiered at Sundance. The plot for this film is centered around, Rama a member of a special forces team, that arrives at a rundown apartment block with a mission to remove its owner, a notorious drug lord the building has become a sanctuary for killers, gangs, rapist and thieves Rama and his team must fight their way through every floor and every room not to just complete their mission but survive their bloody ordeal. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat, some of the slow motion shots and angles really draw you into some of the scenes and the fighting in this film is like Bruce lee on steroids I’m not going to lie after the film was over. I wanted to kick some butt, which is awesome when a director can create a story like this and get your blood pumping they have successfully done their jobs if you have some time to watch this movie I seriously advise it.
I go to the movies to be entertained and inspired by other directors works of art to summon up a good film of my own this movie was simply amazing, The action is nonstop and the fights are choreographed mostly by two of the main actors, overall a really well done film another film that deserves 10 movie reels out of 10. PROMETHEUS

Hey everybody my name is Kyle Mayo I am currently majoring in mass communications at Bossier Parish Community college. In hopes that I will become a director or producer, wherever the film industry may lead me I will follow.Film has always been a passion of mine.Ever since I was a little boy, it has always intrigued me . A filmmaker in my eyes is a modern day story teller and someone who can capture a broad audience through visual images. That is why I love films so much  and enjoy making them. I am currently in the process of owning a production company with my father who loves films as much as I do. Our company's name is FAKE HAND PRODUCTIONS .We currently have finished a short film, PRISONER OF MY MIND,a physiological thriller that really explores what kind of tricks your mind can play on you. It's ready to be sent out to film festivals. There are some  projects that are currently in the process of being developed . I will defiantly keep everybody updated. In the mean time, I thought I would give a shot at being a film critique and explaining some films I have seen and share them with you in hopes that you will appreciate that it is coming  from a fellow filmmaker.

So my first film I will be reviewing  will be....... Prometheus a well developed science fiction film from the great mind of  Ridley Scott. The opening scene caught my intention immediately with some really amazing visual effects almost immediately you could sense it was going to be a thrill ride. Prometheus was written by  Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall - Green, and Chalize Theron. The story is set in the late 21st century and centers on the crew of the space ship Prometheus as they follow a map discovered among the remnants of several ancient civilizations. The crew, seeking the origins of humanity, arrive on a distant world and discover an advanced civilization and a threat that could cause the extinction of the human race. Development of the film began in the 2000s as a fifth installment in the alien franchise. Ridley Scott and director James Cameron developed ideas for a film that would serve as a prequel to Scotts 1979 science fiction horror film Alien. John Spaihts wrote a script for a prequel to the alien films, but Ridley Scott wanted to go a different direction with it. In 2010 Damon Lindelof joined the project and rewrote John Spaihts script, and he and Ridley Scott developed a story that precedes the story of Alien but is not connected. Prometheus explores its own mythology and ideas. It was a fun film to watch I would defiantly recommend you go check this one out  Thematically the film blended the best of the first two films,Alien and Aliens, in terms of action. As a director this movie and the story behind it really hits home for me. I remember when I was a kid my dad approached me with the series of alien movies to watch and I loved every one of them. So a really good addition to the franchise overall 10 movie reels out of 10. Join me next week as I bring you another addition of FILM REVIEWS FROM A FILMMAKER.....
